Hear no evil see no evil!

A champion jockey is about to enter an important race on a new horse. The horse's trainer meets him before the race and says, "All you have to remember with this horse is that every time you approach a jump, you have to shout, 'ALLLLEEE OOOP!' really loudly in the horse's ear. Providing you do that, you'll be fine."

The jockey thinks the trainer is mad but promises to shout the command. The race begins and they approach the first hurdle. The jockey ignores the trainer's ridiculous advice and the horse crashes straight through the center of the jump.

They carry on and approach the second hurdle. The jockey, somewhat embarrassed, whispers 'Aleeee ooop' in the horse's ear. The same thing happens--the horse crashes straight through the center of the jump.

At the third hurdle, the jockey thinks, "It's no good, I'll have to do it," and yells, "ALLLEEE OOOP!" really loudly. Sure enough, the horse sails over the jump with no problems. This continues for the rest of the race, but due to the earlier problems the horse only finishes third.

The trainer is fuming and asks the jockey what went wrong. The jockey replies, "Nothing is wrong with me - it's this horse. What is he - deaf or something?"

The trainer replies, "Deaf?? DEAF?? He's not deaf--he's BLIND!"

That might some up some of your nags trainers!!!!!!! Anyway for all tonight's top tips please click on read more.....

Running on nitro - 8:12 - 48/1

Now even after last nights run of poor results I cant help backing this 5 year old colt even at these long odds. Unlike many of the other horses in this Special Advance Allowance race Running on Nitro has had a recent win and in his 57 race career has shown on more than one occassion that writing him off can be a costly mistake. The grey colt transferred to the David S stable from the ultimate racing yard in early October and will obviously need some time to settle before reaching his full potential. Tonight in Canada I reckon he could well suprise the bookies and snatch a placed finish.

Pirate Attack - 8:48 - 18/1

Another risky tip here but the odds are simply too good to ignore. The reason this slowstables trained colt is at 18/1 is because when last out in a race of this level on fast going he finished 14th out of 14 in a night his owner will want to forget. Make no mistake about it though Pirate Attack is far better than that one result depicts. In 11 races the 2 year old has won in 3 and been placed in 5. If he can get a good start tonight then theres no reason why he cant do what he does best and run well. Putting that poor result behind him would also be welcomed.

A year on from one fo the saddest days in racing

Trainer Henrietta Knight saddles two of the nine runners in the William Hill Gold Cup on what is set to be an emotional day at Exeter tomorrow.
Knight's three-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Best Mate died after suffering a heart attack in the race last year.

Best Mate began his chasing career at Exeter in 2000 and won the race, then known as the Haldon Gold Cup, in 2001.

He became a household name after becoming the first horse since Arkle to win three consecutive Gold Cups.

Until his final race, he had not finished out of the first two in any of his 21 starts.

Knight has an excellent record in Exeter's 2m 1f race, having also won it with Edredon Bleu in 2002 and 2003.

Like Best Mate, Edredon Bleu was owned by Jim Lewis and his famous claret and blue colours will be carried by Impek in the 2006 running.

Snow Witch - 8:48 - 24/1

Lofty odds here for a horse who won her last level weight race on Muddy going! In identical conditions tonight the bookies are writing her off. Fair enough that win did come in a small field of 5 but still a wins a win and Snow Witch has recorded 32 of them in a 156 race career. Owned by Abaddon the 5 year old fillie has earned £1,133 in her career and if she runs well tonight could well pick up a placed finish.

Drastic Measure - 9:12 - 20/1

Have the bookies been at the drink's cabinet!?? 20/1 seems a very attractive price for such a contender and all going well he should challenge tonight. Now there is some concern in that the 2 year old colt from the patching22 stable hasn't raced since the 8th of October. However when last out Drastic measure won in the USA over 2 miles. With 5 wins and 10 placed finishes in 23 races he looks a handy horse and is a good each way punt in this race.

Aficionado - 9:24 - 13/1

In arguably the best race of the evening Muggins racing's Aficionado will be hoping to continue where he left off in his last race. Last wednesday in the UK the 2 year old colt ran a superb race all be it in a small field to pick up his third win for the yard. Total stats for the grey horse read 15 races, 3 wins and 5 placed finishes. With form well and truly back this boy should do okay tonight. A placed finish is highly possible.

Have you got dutch courage?!

Today's posting comes all the way from the magical city of Amsterdam. And its apt that Dirk Kuyt was on hand to score for Liverpool yesterday in our great win over Villa. I know alot of our owners are Villa fans so hard luck guys. Elsewhere United were on fire away to bolton. On this form can anyone stop Fergie's men????

The Mercy Seat - 8:12 - 7/1

In this small field of 8 these odds aren't bad for a horse of undisputed ability. In 109 competitive races the 6 year old from the ozzy yorks stable has won 18 times and been placed in 38 bringing in career winnings of £1,444. His current run is also excellent with 4 wins and 3 placed finishes in his last 9 races. Very verstaile he's had good days on all types of going at tracks throughout the virtual world and I fancy him for a place this evening.

Royal Rose - 8:57 - 15/2

If you're a regular viewer of this blogspot you'll be well aware that I backed this 2 year old fillie from the topcert stable at 24/1 last week and she didnt let me down. With her last race being on the 19th of this month shes had a nice rest before tonight's race in Hong Kong and she should challenge for top honours once again. A very solid horse she runs with a maturity beyond her years. If she doesnt win this progress race then she should finish in the places at least.

Shark Attack - 9:48 - 40/1

Ah to hell with it its the weekend! Lets go for broke! While Shark Attack is the ranked outsider in the 9:48 race from Canada I belive shes well capable of getting up to finish in the places. Recent form has been decent and includes a win on firm in Australia a number of days ago. In 20 races the Gerry20 trained girl has won in 5 and been placed in 9 so I'm backing her for another placing this evening.

Romantic Rollings!

Who said every male getminted owner was gruff and macho??!!! Today marks the third wedding anniversary of rolling's stable owner Sean and his beautiful wife Tracey. Well done to you two. On the racing front Sean is also doing well with almost £1000 banked since joining Getminted racing on the 15th of February this year. Hold on thats the day after Valentines, romance just follows this man around!!!

For all tonight's top Getminted racing tips please click on read more....

Blu Sebring - 8:12 - 10/1

With two wins and two placed finishes in his last four races this 2 year old is really finding his Getminted racing feet. The Redhalo racing trained colt must be fancied to do well in a progress race and at 10/1 looks a tasty each way contender. In all he's won twice and has been placed in six of his 14 races to date earning £116 for the yard. While fast isn't Blu Sebring's favoured going he still has the ability to let rip in Canada over the 7 furlong distance.

Sensei - 8:57 - 11/2

The last time I tipped Sensei he let me down so the old grey owes me one and back on his favoured fast going he could do the business in the 8:57 race from Canada this evening. He's won twice in the last five outings so confidence is high and in a race of this standing he should be good enough to challenge for top honours if he gets the right jockey.

Taking the Pith - 9:24 - 32/1

If this Ken Allan youngster is as poor as his stats suggest then why hasn't the brilliant owner entered him in a claimer? After all this man doesn't mess about when it comes to quality. I believe this horse has been held back and that he will let fly when running at peak condition. His sole victory came on the 6th of September and since then he's only managed to pick up a single placed finish. Tonight may be the night the real 'Taking the Pith' stands up! Worth a flutter at such long odds.

Phar Lap was poisoned say scientists

The mystery surrounding the fate of Australia's most famous racehorse looks set to have been solved - 74 years after his death.
Scientists say that tests show Phar Lap was poisoned by arsenic while he was at the peak of his career in 1932.

The legendary horse collapsed and died in agony in California, hours before a race he was widely tipped to win.

US gangsters are long believed to have ordered the death, amid fears he would cause big losses to illegal bookmakers.

Australian scientists used particle accelerator technology to closely analyse preserved strands of Phar Lap's hair.

They concluded that the five-year-old New Zealand-bred chestnut had been given a lethal dose of arsenic 35 hours before his death.

"We've made observations which could be explained by poison. We can't otherwise explain it," Australian Synchrotron Research Program scientist Ivan Kempson told local media.

He said the findings added weight to the gangster poisoning theory, but warned: "You will never get a 100% definite answer".

Phar Lap - which means lightening in Thai - was a sporting hero in Australia during the Great Depression era, winning 37 of his 51 starts, including the 1930 Melbourne Cup.

He had won the rich Agua Caliente race in Mexico just days before his trainer found him in severe pain, with blood pouring from his lungs in California. He died hours later.

Phar Lap's heart lies in the National Museum in Canberra, while his preserved body is on display at the Melbourne Museum.

Sensei - 8:12 - 15/2

The bookies cant make their mind up about this race so theres scope to make money perhaps even with some spread betting. My tip Sensei comes into this race on the back of a decent win in the USA in an eclipse stakes race. Owned by Diablo racing the 6 year old colt has picked up 11 wins and 26 placed finishes in his career earning a total of £1,151 for the yard. A consistent performer when running well he has notched up two wins and a placing in his last four races so must be considered for an each way punt.

Dec 27th - 9:12 - 12/1

I've backed this 7 year old veteran in the past and he hasn't let me down yet. In his career to date Dec 27th has brought in £2,725 in winnings for five different owners. Now in the twilight of his succesful career the colt has a few more tricks up his sleeve before he calls it a day and if he gets a good jockey he could well take this race though a placing is more likely.

Trium Fontium - 9:24 - 12/1

Owners RedHalo racing will be hoping this 2 year old colt can turn around a poor run of form in this Getminted Monthly Challenge qualifier. Undoubtedly talented Trium Fontium has only won once in fifteen races but with six placings he's earned almsot £600 for the yard. Tonight at good odds the youngster will be aiming to kick start a purple patch and I've a feeling he'll pick up another place before he goes on to bigger and better things.

Ferdinand backs Rooney to net against Pool!

I see where Rio Ferdinand believes Wayne Rooney will end his goaldrought and hit the back of the net today against Liverpool at Old Trafford. The over rated centre half said " If I was a betting man I would have a couple of quid on him", hope he gave Michael Owen a call to share his vast wisdom! It looks as if United will be too strong for the Pool today. It's vital for Rafa Benitez that his side can get something out of this game having lost three games already this season. Liverpool just haven't got going while a win for the Red Devils would see them leapfrog Chelsea to top the Premiership. Interesting times indeed, my prediction Man United 2 Liverpool 0 though I'd give anything for a pool win!

Royal Rose rakes in the rubles!

Technical problems prevented me from posting yesterday which was a pain as I really wanted to brag about a wonderful result on Thursday night! The massive 24/1 outsider Royal Rose from the Topcert stable finished in second. After the exploits of 'Im a shrewd thing' on Wednesday night this result capped off a good tipping week for yours truly. Now the big question can I keep the good run going?

For all tonight's top Tips please clcik on read more.....

Papermill boy - 8:57 - 15/1

With 3 victories in his 6 races so far this 2 year old colt from the Rose Hill stable has done enough to suggest he could be a star in the making. He comes into this race on the back of a fine win in Dubai where he fought off a field of 8 to take the C division race. This level weight race will undoubtedly be a harder task for Parpermill boy but if he gets a good jockey and finishes strongly then he may just get a placing at this good odds.

Little Diamond - 9:24 - 13/1

Theres certainly no world beaters in this line up so in a way it's anyone's race. Little Diamond from the Sheikh Mahandy stable joined this latest yard from N Twisting Blighter for £27 at the end of September. Since then she's won once and been placed once but her newest employers will be expecting a better run of results of else she may be handed her P45. Ironically her earnings to date come to £45! A slight cance of a win but a realistic chance of a placed finish.

Buddies girl - 9:48 - 11/1

A milestone here for Bryan1969's 5 year old fillie as this race marks Buddies girl's 100th race. In the 99 to date the chestnut colourded fillie has won in 14 and been placed in 36 bringing in a total of £2,115 in career earnings. Worryingly for the stable Buddies girl hasn't recorded a win since the 3rd of September but has picked up a host of placed finishes in recent weeks. A good start tonight is vital if Buddies girl is to deliver the goods.

Oh yes I am a shrewd thing!

What a fantastic run we witnessed last night from the sirlad trained 'shrewd thing'! At massive odds of 18/1 the 2 year old colt finished in second as predicted in Australia despite being written off by the bookies. And it could have been so much better. The youngster finished less than a full length behind Javier Javier. Still a great result Im sure you'd agree!

For all tonight's top Getminted Racing tips please click on read more....

Royal Rose - 8:48 - 24/1

Well you cant argue with a 100% record! This 2 year old fillie from the Topcert stable has only been out once (on tuesday in Hong Kong) where she won in a full field in a Maiden juvenille race for grade 2 horses. Undoubtedly its a step up in quality tonight but still this inexperienced field isn't great. The Topcert stable have only been with Getminted for two months but already they've earned almost £900. If their new girl can get a good jockey tonight then they could add to that amount. Each way contender.

Woozie - 9:24 - 17/2

What a great name. My sources tell me though that this 2 year old fillie is neither pint size nore welsh! In her seven races to date this Ken Allan trained grey has won once and been placed in 3. Its a measure of the respect Ken Allan has for this fillie that he paid previous owner Decibel £338 for her on the 8th of October. Obviously Ken believes this horse can deliver and who am I to argue with the master. I think a win may be beyond her tonight but feel a place in well within her abilities.

beegee - 9:48 - 11/1

I have to admit I'm less confident about this selection than the other two but in the world of virtual horse racing you never know!!! Beegee has been out 7 times so far in his career winning in 3 and being placed in 3 but he faces an uphill battle in Hong Kong in the last race of the evening. He comes into this race on the back of a win at this very track five days ago and after a good rest he's confident of success. In this small field winner takes all so he'll have to stay with the pacemakers from the very off.

Lucky Carberry gets of with a slap on the wrist!

Irish jockey Paul Carberry has avoided jail for setting fire to a newspaper on board a flight from Spain to Ireland.
The rider had been sentenced to two months behind bars in May for the air rage incident in October 2005 but was freed pending an appeal.

Following a hearing in the Dublin District Court on Monday the case was dismissed.

Carberry has also been told to undertake voluntary work.

One of the suggestions raised in the court was that the top jockey give horse riding lessons to young people from the inner city.

The 32-year-old, from Tara, Co Meath, had pleaded not guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour likely to lead to a breach of the peace on the Aer Lingus flight.

But the trial judge described Carberry's evidence at the time as contrived.

He noted his testimony to the court had three important variations on the original statement he gave gardai in Dublin airport.

Carberry claimed setting the paper on fire was a freak accident.

The jockey was granted bail after paying 1,000 euros (£673) and was allowed to walk free from court, pending an appeal which was successful on Monday.

The Meath man was Irish champion jockey in 2002, when he became the first man since Charlie Swan in 1996/97 to ride a century of winners.

Front nine - 8:36 - 34/1

You know what they say - a change is as good as a rest - and new owners SirLad who picked up this young colt will be hoping he settles in quickly to his new virtual surroundings. Bought exactly a week ago in a claimer the 2 year old won once and has been placed in four of his eight competitive races to date. Offered at a huge price today he must be considered good enough to get a place given the average standard of his fellow competitors in the 8:36 race in England. This is arguably his favourite distance and going over which to run so expect fireworks from Front nine.

Shrewd Thing - 8:57 - 18/1

For the second tip in a row I'm backing a Sirlad trained colt. This time I think Shrewd Thing could be just that and finish in the top three at favourable odds.Bought from the Wirksworth Yard in a claimer two weeks ago the 2 year old black colt has one win and six placed finishes under his belt from ten runs. While he is prone to having a shocker he has the undisputed potential which if nurtured correctly will see him go a long way for the yard.

Astrometeorology - 9:36 - 9/1

In a hugely succesful career this amazing fillie has raked in almost £1,200 in transfer fees. The latest owner of Astrometeorology is sdownie who paid £474 for the 5 year old fillie back in January of this year. When you look at her stats its easy to see why this fine virtual animal is held in such high esteem. In 139 races shes won in 42 (30% win to run ratio) and has been placed in 55 (40% place to run ratio).Without a win since the 14th of September one is surely around the corner and if she runs well tonight she should do very well - solid each way contender.

Mixed feelings in another Getminted Monthly Challenge Qualifier

It's Monday 20:12 Getminted Monthly Challenge Qualifier-2YC-1 and there is another large field with some big owners. A few mutterings in the race previews about varying form and odds, but it's sometimes hard to know what to believe, as there can a lot of banter.

Lady Harkin is talking his horse down and Maximas cannot work out the odds on his horse at 68/1!!

It's therefore a very open race, but at 68/1 the Maximas horse may be worth look for a place and I would never want to overlook a Dallas1 horse - particularly Black Minnaloushe with those stats.

The big stakes race 20:24

The WFA 2-7Y C Gr 0 - 1 20:24 race has a large filed of runners with some very experienced horses and even more experienced owners. Meat, Dallas1, Deduson, Maximas and Longy all feature here.

The Deduson horse Maltese Assassin particulalry grabs my attention with an impressive ratio of stats; 105Lbs, 69 runs, 28 places and 19 wins. The most experienced horse; Sexy Beast now with Papa Smurf! stables has seen a lot of races and owners, but still looks an interesting punt.

Lots of value in the pack? 20:12

A good place to start and a good way to check out some future racing legends in the 20:12 Special Allowance Juvenile CF - 1 . Jaybones' Value Pack looks a particulalry good horse, one of 4 males in the race carrying 112 lbs - it has raced 9 times, placed once and won twice.

The Sex Bomb, sex bomb from wills-wills looks pretty good too with only 4 runs to it's name and a good win. Perhaps the most experinced horses will outdo the rest?; Lifesaver from Menace and Waffles from Bootstrap both have 18 runs under their saddles.

The way to Amarillo in the eclipse stakes!!

A great bunch of horses are out for the Eclipse Stakes WFA 2-7Y Fillies race. With the older of the horses; Amarillio from Double Silk stables looking like a very good prospect. The legendary Snow Witch from Abaddon is a good looking horse too from a very experienced stable.

Perhaps the youngest and lightest of the horses; Duchess Sarah from BigboySteve is going to pull a surprise win?

Juvenile fillies in the 20:12

Check out the new talent in the 20:12 Allowance juvenile Fillies race. Some big names in the race witn a few owners trying out a few of their 2 year olds - Black Smoke has four runners in this race! With Silver Blade or Get After Him looking the best of their bunch.

These races are reknowned for being pretty unpredictable, but as I mentioned for a place the two Black Smoke horses look good and possibly Fillydelphia USA from Celtic Park. Transflash from Mr Monkey may also be worth a look.

The old guard in the 20:55 race

A few names you should recognise in the Level Weight 4-7Y F at 20:55, including the legendary jetaime cheveux. This horse has certainly been around and Shotgun Mike is the proud owner now, but Whiskey Rain from Catlikething looks like the most promoising horse for this race.

Semtex from Christmas Stables looks a good each way, but jetaome cheveux is always worth a look.

Getminted Monthly Challenge Qualifier tonight

A selection of the big boys are in the running tonight for the Getminted Monthly Challenge Qualifier at 8:36pm. The obvious favourite being Meat's horse; Pheremones with 20 runs, 7 places and 4 wins - the most successful and experienced horse in the race, meaning it's carrying the most weight however.

Ken Allan's Stable has two horses running, but he is warning people off his Cheeky Boadicea due to low fitness - the other Ken Allan horse; Woozie is highly recommended by me and the man himself. 5 runs, 2 places and 1 win!!

Is Silver bullet Jonz worth it? Oh yeah..........

Is he the best horse which has ever graced getminted racing? - probably not. But make no doubt about it this 3 year old has a long and lucrative career ahead of him a fact not lost on new owner the Andy Hargie stable. Paying £2,500 for a virtual race horse may seem excessive at first but when you consider that Silver bullet Jonz has already earned £2,770 you can see the logic behind the massive buy. This younster was only bought four months ago but already his stats beggar belief, in 77 races he's won in 29 and has been placed in 32. Was the high purchase price worth it ?-it looks so.

Above the Law - 8:36 - 14/1

Well I backed this 2 year old colt for a placing a few days ago and he delivered in style. The bookies are still not convinced however and have given 'Above the Law' a price of 14/1. Still without a victory in his career the grey has been placed in 9 of his 15 races. Career earnings to date stand at an uninspiring £41 but if he continues to pick up the places and maybe even get a win here and there he'll develop into a steady earner. Should finish in the places tonight.

hit the north - 8:48 - 10/1

Amazingly this 2 year old colt from the j's stable has won in five of his last eight races and finished second in the other three. As good a 2 year old as you'll ever see on getminted he's earned £213 in his two months with us. The youngster has shown hes well able to strut his stuff in both large and small fields and remains calm under the intense pressure of racing. A good price here tonight, not backing him would be a bigger suprise than backing him!

Trium Fontium - 9:24 - 20/1

If you look at this Redhalo racing trained colt's recent form it doesn't offer much optimism. However if we step back and view his long term form over the past couple of months we notice the 2 year old always fares better on fast going. Tonight in Dubai the conditions should be perfect for Trium Fontium and if he gets an able jockey then he may spring a suprise and notch a place at these long odds.

Virtual Racehorse Shatters On-line Auction Record

The highest price paid for a virtual racehorse made history last night when online trainer, Jonz79 successfully auctioned his cyber-colt, SilverBullet Jonz, for an unprecedented £2,500.

Paying £2,500 for a racehorse that doesn’t actually exist defies logic in the real world; unless of course you own a virtual horse on the Raceclubs game at www.getmintedmax.com, the world’s biggest and fastest growing, virtual horseracing community. The colt which originally cost £8 has already earned over £2,700 cash during its short but illustrious three month career. The hefty price-tag means another champion virtual racehorse for Andy Hargie Stables, who could easily recoup his investment ten-fold before retiring the iconic colt from competitive racing.

The opportunity to own a living, breathing racehorse remains a dream for many but the reality of cleaning its stable is quiet another!

Raceclubs on www.getmintedmax.com is a fantasy racing game that simulates the excitement of real-life racing where members can own and race virtual race-horses for real money. All the racing action takes place online against other trainers around the world. The idea of online racing elevates horseracing to a new dimension where a virtual victory translates into actual cash winnings which trainers can withdraw anytime they choose.

True to real-life, the online horseracing community can buy and sell their horses through the highly anticipated monthly auctions. Sellers can set a minimum reserve on their horses but the free-market economy prevails as ultimately the final selling price is determined by buyers who base their bids according to a horse’s racing history and potential earnings. The owners may be selling virtual horses but the prices they’re fetching are cash. Online bidding wars have escalated into thousands of dollars. Virtual horseracing is aggressive business and owning a champion horse can mean the difference of make or break for highly competitive stables,

Virtual horseracing is big business; and if a £2,500 price-tag seems excessive for a virtual racehorse then consider this – stable owners on Raceclubs have won almost £3,000,000 in stakes winnings over 5 years.

Driving the virtual horseracing phenomenon is Cashcade who offer the Raceclubs game as well as betting on these races at www.getmintedmax.com. Cashcade are also planning to soon broadcast the races across satellite television in the UK.

Virtual horseracing, like its real-life racing counterpart, offers the excitement, entertainment and prestige of horseracing. The trainers in this fantasy world are developing incredibly competitive racing strategies to gain championship titles and to generate serious profits.

Paying £2,500 for a thoroughbred virtual racehorse may now seem like a bargain.

Change to Jockey random factor situation

Getminted have been closely following the evolving discussion on the Jockeys and the amount of influence a jockey has on the performance of a horse in a race.

The concern from some members is that the jockey is allocated completely randomly. This can cause major disappointment when a horse is placed to the best of a member’s ability in a high stakes race and the horse does not perform as expected, largely due to being allocated a poor jockey. A poor jockey is unlikely to be able to explore the true potential of the horse and of course this causes much frustration.

This frustration is especially prevalent in high stakes races and so we will design a system that adds a higher level of skill when racing at this level.

We have debated this at length with members and read a lot of commentary from you. Largely thanks to your input we have concluded that in high stakes races, the skill of an owner should have a greater influence over the race result.

The system will hence increase the impact that your skill has on the result and reduce the impact that the jockey has. Only championship qualifiers and finals will be subject to this as these are the races in which the other deciding factors such as horse ability, horse placement (suitability for the race spec) and preparation (tack and fitness) are currently near eliminated, where horses are so closely matched whilst their owners are some of the games most astute. This will further be represented in these races by only the top 14 jockeys being allocated to horses in these races.

We will appreciate your continued constructive comments in finalising the design of this system. We anticipate that we will begin development of the system by the end of this month by which time we will be able to tell you how long we expect the development to take.

Once again, thank you for your inputs on this subject. You may have offered alternative ideas that are not totally consistent with this system, and we will be more than happy to offer a reason for any differences that may concern you. Just send the Support Desk an email through the contact us section of the website entitled “Jockey Factor”.

It's criminal that Above the law didn't win!

How close we came to a bumper payday last night when Above the law was just edged out of it in the 8:36 race in Hong Kong by Mercury rain. Still that tip at 13/1 should have earned wise punters a few pounds/euros/dollars etc! Hopefully topnight we can go one better!

Churchill Downs - 8:12 - 15/1

When you look at the stats for this horse you almost have to rub your eyes and look again. The 2 year old colt from the Dallas1 stable has won in an amazing ten of his 14 races to date and is fast making a name for himself at the virtual race courses across the globe. While yielding is not his favourite going Churchill Downs is still good enough to finish in the places tonight and who knows he may even win this one.

Holly Hill - 8:24 - 20/1

Wow, amazing odds for a fourth favourite. While its true that this Menace trained fillie has a shockingly poor win to run ratio (7%) she has little problems finishing in the places. In her 27 runs she's been placed in 17 and realistically thats the best outcome we can expect in the USA tonight. Recent form has been patchy at best and it seems the 3 year old needs a good weight to contend for honours. If she can get that and gets a good jockey then she has a real chance of finishing in the top three.

Belial - 9:12 - 17/2

Its fair to say that this 3 year old colt has turned a corner and not before time. Belial looked like a prime candidate for the bullet a few weeks ago but four placed finishes in five races has seen a new respect emerge for the black horse from the Abaddon raceyard. He has only raced on yielding once before in his career so its vital he can cope with the going from the off over the 7 furlongs. Without a win in 17 runs his best hope is a placed finish but at these attractive odds you wouldn't turn your nose up to that!

Well done to the Scots on a crazy night of football.

In my local pub I watched the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and England games all at once on three different screens, it took some doing! While my boys were getting a hiding from lowly Cyrpus the mighty Scots were managing to hold off France for a famous 1-0 victory. Can they qualify for Euro 2008? Why the hell not. Scottish fans are obviously not counting their Chickens yet but what a brilliant start to this campaign they've had, remember France nearly won the World Cup!Also Northern Ireland had a good result in Denmark, the 0-0 draw will particularly please Lawrie Sanchez as his side had conceeded five times in their two previous games.England peppered the Macedonian goals but couldn't make the breakthrough at Old Trafford while poor old Wales got well and truely trounced by the Slovaks 5-1. Not a great night for Ceri Barnett and I!

Wishing on a star - 8:12 - 5/1

While he hasn't been especially impressive in his last two races 'wishing on a star' has fine abaility and should go close in this race tonight. Total stats read 41 races, 7 wins and 14 placed finishes. Not amazing statistics but the standard in this race is average. Im actually suprised that theses odds aren't a bit longer but 5/1 is still decent for this ADM Racing trained 3 year old colt.

Above the law - 8:36 - 13/1

This 2 year old colt has been waiting for over 2 months now for his first win. Above the law has finished second on five times and has been placed in eight of his fourteen races in total. He was especially unlucky not to have won on the 16th of September in a maiden juvenile race to Kepi Le Perneaut. As is the story of his career recent form has been solid. Above the Law has been placed in eight of his last ten races and should make that number nine tonight.

Swanees Boy (NZ) - 9:24 - 12/1

What a fantastic field we have going to the stalls in England for the Major Chase Tipster classic. In what is sure to be one of the best races on Getminted for some time my money is going on Swanees Boy to do well nad be placed at least. The 3 year old colt is running in his 30th race tonight. So far in a succesful career he has won in 7 and been placed in 11 of his 29 races. If he gets a good jockey tonight he could well go all the way but a placing is more likely.

Weekend of International football ahead!

What a big weekend it is for the home nations and the Republic of Ireland. Steve McLaren's England play Macedonia in what should be a straight forward game where a win is surely certain. My prediction for that one 3-1. Elswhere Scotland who have started thier campaign is style with 6 points from 6 play France. While a draw would represent a good return the Scots must go for the win on their home patch, my prediction is 1-1. The Republic are away to Cyprus missing a host of top names including Shay Given, Stephen Reid, Kevin Doyle and Stephen Carr. I think this game will be a lot tighter than many suggest and can see Ireland just getting away with a one goal win, perhaps it could end up 2-1 to the boys in Green. Also in the Irish group Wales host Slovakia in a crucial game for the dragons. Ceri Barnett tells me there are some injuries in the Welsh squad so I'll predict a draw here 0-0. And finally in Copenhagen a resurrgent Northern Ireland will face Denmark after their incredible win over Spain last month. However a difficult test this and I think Denamrk will win 3-1.

Flock of Seagulls - 8:36 - 13/1

Since joining Mark at the slowstables in mid September Flock of Seagulls has found a level of consistency which evaded him in the previous month. The 2 year old colt may still be without a win from his 12 starts but his three places in his last three races suggest he may have turned a corner. This is a shorter distance than he is normally used to and he's only raced over muddy once before without success, however at these fantastic odds he's hard to avoid. Solid each way chance.

Confuzion - 8:57 - 16/1

All was going nicely for this 2 year old colt. The places were piling up, the vital first win had been achieved and then he goes and finishes 12th out of 14 in a progress race for juvenile colts! I think more than anything else this is the reason for tonight's long odds. To be fair Confuzion is a handy horse who has tremendous ability. In total he's won once and has been placed six times in 10 races. Owned by Red Halo racing the owners will be wise enough to know that their boy can do well tonight if he gets the right jockey.

Shine - 9:24 - 12/1

Sebonline stable stumbled across a little gem when they bought this 3 year old colt from the sales ring in May of this year. In less than five months Shine has clocked up 8 wins and 17 placed finishes from 44 races earning £926 for the yard. With two wins in the last five races the black dart has high confidence levels and if he gets the right rider tonight then he could challenge for top honours. Well rested Shine hasn't been out since the 4th of October and should have what it takes to give a good account of himself this evening.

Start your weekend off with a smile!

Riding the favourite at Cheltenham, the jockey is well ahead of the field. Suddenly he’s hit on the head by a turkey and a string of sausages. He manages to keep control of his mount and pulls back into the lead, only to be struck by a box of Christmas crackers and a dozen mince pies as he goes over the last fence. With great skill he manages to steer the horse to the front of the field once more when, on the run in, he’s struck on the head by a bottle of sherry and a Christmas pudding. thus distracted, he succeeds in coming only second. He immediately goes to the stewards to complain that he has been seriously hampered!

Crime Scene - 8:36 - 11/1

Seldom do we see a race on Getminted racing with as much quality as that which lines up in the 8:36 race from Canada tonight. At 11/1 Crime scene from the Andy Hargie stables offers good value as she bids to pick up another win for this hugely succesful yard. In 96 races the 7 year old fillie has celebrated 24 wins and 32 placed finishes. She moved from the Lord Amazon Racing stable in August of last year for £205 and hasn't let Andy down. In a very good run of form at the moment she has won four of her last five races and if she gets a good start tonight the good run could well continue though a placing is the likliest outcome.

Dirty Slit - 8:57 - 20/1

I better be careful with this one! The Angelic Diablo stable trained 2 year old fillie has been impressive in her short career to date. She has an advantage over many of the other horses in this field also in the sense that she is very used to the two mile distance. In 7 races the grey fillie has won once and been placed in 5 earning £30 along the way for the stable. Isn't terribly used to big fields but if she can stay focussed then she could come away from Australia with a placing.

Love Always - 9:48 - 13/1

Bought on Christmas eve 2005 this 4 year old fillie has been something of a shining star for the Lois stable. In his 29 races Love Always has picked up 9 wins and 11 placed finishes earning £251. He comes into this race on the back of a fine win on Sunday in Canada when he powered past all in a A Division race. It'll be another difficult task for him tonight as the quality of this field is impressive. However if he gets a good jockey then he could return from the USA in high spirits.

A salute to two great Champions

Before too much time elapses we have to say a massive well done to the winners of the latest Getminted monthly Challenge Finals.

Play safely from the N Twisting Blighter stable won the colts final on the 30th of September in England in fine style. Facing some of the best young colts in the game the Chestnut coloured newcomer picked up his second win in six attempts bringing his career earnings up to almost £500!

Twenty four hours later Andy Hargie's Sunset Shadows recorded another memorable win for this fine stable. Racing in her first final she had a length and a half to spare over the second placed fillie De Madre. It's also worth noting that Sunset Shadows was ridden by German jockey Heinz Huber, the same jockey who rode Play safely to victory in the other Getminted monthly final!

In honour of the one and only Major Chase!

Princess Crackers - 8:57 - 12/1

Heres a girl whos certainly having a good time! In her 6 races to date the 2 year old fillie from the MrTug stable has notched up 2 wins and 3 placed finishes and enters this race in Dubai in a rich vein of form. At home on all types of going shes earned £75 for this highly successful stable already. Mr Tug has earned £4,222 since joining us on the 12th of March this year and could add to that tonight if Princess Crackers gets a good jocky - great each way potential.

Signora Frog - 9:12 - 10/1

One of the most inconsistent horses on Getminted racing this lois trained fillie can be either brilliant or woeful, lets hope for the former this evening. In her 52 career runs to date shes emerged victorious in just 8 but has also picked up 19 placed finishes. It is worth noting though that five of these placed finishes came in the last six races so perhaps the 4 year old fillie has turned a corner. Up against some quality opposition in this field she needs to get that ninth win to keep Lois content!

Carlos Tevez - 9:24 - 8/1

Owners Heinz is obvioulsy a West Ham fan but lets hope his 2 year old colt can be more prolific than the Argentinian star has been so far this season! This colt's first win came in mid september when he outclassed an impressive field to win on yielding going in Australia. Carlos Tevez is back down under again tonight after a poor run last week in which he finished ninth. At 8/1 he looks like good value for an each way punt and he should improve on the £100 earned for the yard this evening.

H K Hurricane just misses out on rounding off an excellent night for the tipster!

How close we were to the perfect result in England last night when H K Hurricane came storming down by the rail at the end of the Getminted consolation race. Sadly though it was too little too late for the 52/1 shot as he finished agonisingly in 4th. Prior to his heroics Distant memories backed for a place delivered just that finishing 3rd in Canada at 17/2 and Franklins Garden also did us proud picking up another 2nd placed finish at 13/2 in England. Well done to all.

Magical Shadows - 8:12 - 15/2

What an incredible run of form this 3 year old fillie is on of late. She's won her last three races and five of her last seven though it must be remembered these were all in very small fields. Owned by the mr. monkey stable she was bought just over a month ago from boyle1972 for £50 and in total has earned career winnings of £275. A lover of fast going as well as this distance she could well win tonight if she gets a decent jockey though in this larger size fields I think a placing is more likley.

Catherine Linton - 8:48 - 9/1

Magnificent odds here for a third favourite. In a field not brimming with top quality, owners Coolmore Operation must be confident that their girl has a chance in the 8:48 race from England. In her eight races to date Catherine Linton (a Wuthering Heights character) has been placed in five of these, especially unlucky not to record her first victory on the 12th of Setember when she finished second behind Stranglehold in the USA. She has potential but will need a good run tonight or patience may start to ebb away for the yard. Good each way chance.

Major Blitzkrieg - 9:12 - 12/1

It says that these Arc de Triomphe races are being run in the U.K. but I'd ignore that , were in Longchamps for sure! With some of the best horses in Getminted racing on show this particular race is sure to be a classic. I've opted to back the wonderful Major Blitzkrieg from the Andy Hargie stable who has won £3,154 in his career to date. Coming into this race on the back of a fine win in the UK his confidence will be high though his weight may be affected by that victory. Total stats read 110 races, 19 wins (17% win to run ratio) and 48 paced finishes (44% place to run ratio), who'd back against that!?
