Time trials, what to look out for!
For the more experienced owners the do and donts of time trials will be second nature but for new owners finding the right conditions in which to train your horse are vital. There are a number of important factors to consider before finding out if your fillie is a born sprinter or your young colt is a stayer for the long distances. When training your horse try him/her out over different distances and on different types of going. It is important to remember as well that by racing your horse against the same age and sex of barrier horse you will be able to analyise your horses preferrences more accurately. Many owners give up on a horse when they see it fail at a particular distance or on a certain type of going but remember just with real horses there are conditions which suit horses better than others. Most importantly though never be shy when asking other owners for advice, they are the ones who know the game best and usually will only be too ready to offer good advice. Happy racing!
